The tin looked well stocked
Emil had reached the toothbrushes in Friday evening’s supply check when Rae produced an unopened three-pack of CrossAction heads. Three heads looked like enough for both of them.
That suited Emil, who preferred keeping familiar equipment until it had a specific reason to go. The iO Series 7 still worked. Its worn head was the part that needed replacing. Rae’s Pro 1000 was working too. Buying one kind of refill for the two Oral-B handles sounded sensible.
The handle names changed the order. Oral-B excludes iO from CrossAction xFilament compatibility. In the other direction, iO heads are made for adult iO handles and do not fit Pro, Genius, Smart or Vitality handles. The round brushing end and the brand on the packet do not establish the fitting.
Rae’s CrossAction pack therefore belonged with the Pro 1000. Emil chose the Oral-B iO Ultimate Clean black two-count for the iO Series 7. It was the same head family supplied with that handle. The exact refill pack is model iO RB CB-2, UPC 069055128923, with two heads and no handle or charger.
Two names on the next order
The two-pack would give Emil a replacement and a spare. It would not give the household one head for each brush. If both handles had been adult iO models, they could have used the same refill family while keeping their personal heads separate. This pair needed two families.
There was no reason to replace either working handle to make the refills match. Emil would pay for the iO pack, checking the seller and full checkout total before ordering. Rae’s unopened stock could stay. Each handle would keep its own original charger on the shared shelf.
This settles which replacement fits. It does not rank how the two brushes clean or predict which head will feel comfortable. A damaged or failing handle also needs attention beyond choosing a refill. For ordinary care and replacement, follow the instructions for the exact handle.
Emil made room for the future unopened iO spare and reached for the labels. “Brushes” had sounded perfectly clear when there was one tin. Now Emil wrote “iO Ultimate Clean” on one and “CrossAction, Pro 1000” on the other. Rae put the unopened three-pack back beneath its full name.
When this does not matter
Both handles are adult iO models. The mixed-family stock problem disappears, though each person still needs a separate head.
The practical fix
- Read the exact handle model before buying. An adult iO and a Pro 1000 use different replacement-head families.
- For the iO Series 7, choose the iO Ultimate Clean black two-count, model iO RB CB-2, UPC 069055128923. Check the pack, seller and total cost.
- Keep existing CrossAction xFilament refills for the Pro 1000. Keep personal heads separate and each original charger with its handle.
- Leave unopened spares in their packaging and follow the care and replacement instructions for each handle.
This applies if…
- You have an identified, intact adult Oral-B iO handle and need a replacement head, especially if conventional Oral-B refills are already in the house.
The answer changes if…
- Your handle is a Pro 1000. Its CrossAction family fits that handle, while iO Ultimate Clean does not.
- The handle itself is damaged or failing. A matching replacement head does not resolve that problem.

What to check in your own setup
- Compatibility does not establish individual comfort, dental suitability, cleaning results or service life.
- This comparison does not verify third-party heads, diagnose a damaged handle or establish charger interchangeability.
- The linked listing identifies the exact package. Seller authenticity, future price and availability still need checking.
