The new name on the calendar

Dev had written “robot” in the next floor-cleaning slot. In pencil, because nobody had agreed to buy one yet. Lena noticed it while clearing the kitchen table and put the calendar beside his phone.

Since his workdays at the bicycle shop had changed, she had picked up some of the cleaning he had meant to do. Dev wanted a tool that could take care of the living room and kitchen while the household got on with other things. Lena wanted to know which jobs would still be left for a person.

He usually liked equipment he could repair and hang on a hook. This time, a cleaner that traveled between rooms sounded worth making space for. Six adults shared the home, and his pencil entry was getting ahead of their agreement.

Who carries it through the hall?

On the back of the calendar, Dev drew the proposed dock in the living room, then the hall and kitchen. Both rooms had hard floors. The hall between them had fitted carpet, and there was no second route.

The Q5 Pro had seemed a sensible choice until they reached its mopping instructions. Roborock says not to use the mopping module on carpets. The setup notes call for excluding carpet with No-Go Zones or an Invisible Wall, or rolling it up.

Dev shaded in the hall. His line from the dock stopped at its edge. Excluding that strip also excluded the kitchen from the planned route. Moving the dock to the other side would leave the living room across the same carpet.

“Who carries it over?” Lena asked.

Lena had kept familiar equipment going through two moves. Carrying another cleaner between rooms would still put a person into the job they wanted to automate.

They could keep separate vacuuming and manual mopping jobs. They could also reconsider how much handling they were willing to accept. The fitted hall carpet was staying where it was. Q5 Pro came off the list for their automatic route.

The setting that puts Qrevo Pro on the list

The Qrevo Pro gave Dev a reason to keep looking. Roborock’s carpet instructions describe a setting called Rise. When the robot detects carpet, it raises the mops and stops the water flow while vacuuming. That was the feature Dev needed for the carpet between the two rooms. The carpet settings need to be selected in the app.

Lena asked whether the advertised 10 mm lift meant a carpet that thick would be fine. It did not. Roborock describes how far the mop modules move, without giving an approved carpet-pile height. They still needed to check whether the raised pads would clear their own hall carpet.

Of these two robots, Qrevo Pro was the one to plan around. They would need a suitable dock position and the Rise setting for the hall. Roborock also tells owners to follow the first complete cleaning route. Dev would watch the crossing in both directions, including the return after mopping. If the damp pads touched the carpet, they would need a different cleaning plan.

Dev puts his name back

Dev circled Qrevo Pro beneath their drawing. Next to it he wrote “dock space, carpet setting, first route” and put his initials beside the list. Buying the right model would still leave someone to set it up.

He erased “robot” from the next cleaning turn and wrote his own name. The existing mop would do that job while they worked through the purchase and setup. Qrevo Pro was the one they would plan to buy for its lifting mops, with their own carpet still to check. Q5 Pro’s instructions kept its mopping module out of that hall.

Lena put the calendar back where everyone could see it. Dev took it down once more, found a pen and went over his name in ink.

The practical fix

  1. Trace the route from the proposed dock to every room you want mopped. Mark fitted carpet and removable rugs. A hard-floor route throughout makes the Q5 Pro carpet restriction much less important.
  2. Rule out Q5 Pro for automatic mopping across fixed carpet. Its manual requires keeping the mopping module off that surface.
  3. Choose Qrevo Pro of these two for its carpet-aware routine. Select Rise in the app so carpet detection lifts the mops and stops water flow. Allow for the dock position and clearances in its manual.
  4. Follow the first complete route and check that the raised pads clear your carpet, including after mopping. The 10 mm lift figure is not an approved carpet height. If the pads touch, that route still needs a different cleaning plan.

This applies if…

  • Your target hard-floor rooms are joined only by carpet.
  • Avoiding manual transfer between those rooms is a condition of buying.

The answer changes if…

  • Every target room remains connected by hard floor, or a rug can be taken up. Q5 Pro’s mopping restriction then leaves the route open.
  • You are willing to make separate cleaning jobs and handle the transfer yourself.
  • You plan to mop manually and are choosing a robot only for vacuuming.
  • The raised Qrevo Pro pads still touch your carpet. Its lift feature does not resolve that crossing.

What to check in your own setup
  • Qrevo Pro’s documented carpet behavior supports this model choice. Actual pad clearance, navigation and a complete run through this home have not been established.
  • The 10 mm figure describes mop-module lift travel. The comparison FAQ’s 7 mm pad-lift figure appears in its vacuum-only description. Neither is a verified carpet-pile limit.
  • Vacuum carpet first cleans carpet before dampening the mops. It does not remove a later return across a hall that is the only route back to the dock.
