The pot already had a place

Sana Reyes had added a new coffee pot to the induction-shopping list before Oscar had agreed they needed one. The burner was the purchase they were discussing. Somehow the pot had joined it.

Their small aluminum Bialetti Moka Express was familiar enough that neither had to decide where it belonged. Oscar already disliked the idea of another object waiting for a shelf. He turned the three-cup pot in his hands and asked what was wrong with it.

For the Duxtop 9600LS they were considering, its aluminum body was the problem. Bialetti says its classic aluminum moka pots need an induction plate for induction use. Sana had assumed the tidy answer was to replace theirs with a stainless model carrying an induction label.

She wanted the shopping finished before Thursday's portfolio review. Oscar wanted to know why they were replacing the pot before she ordered another one.

Five inches changed the list

The Duxtop manual gave Sana a second condition: a flat magnetic cooking base at least 5 inches wide. She wrote the number beside the replacement pot. Even a stainless model needed a magnetic base wide enough for this burner.

This is the part worth checking before buying a small induction moka. The material can be right while the base remains outside the burner's published minimum. A different cooktop can have a different requirement, so the Duxtop figure belongs to this exact choice.

Then she found Bialetti's DCDESIGN08 plate. Its US product page gives a diameter of 5.1 inches, just above the Duxtop's 5-inch requirement. Bialetti describes the plate as the adapter for its aluminum moka pots. The Duxtop manual expressly permits an induction interface disk.

They could keep their existing pot. The US plate page covers Bialetti pots from one to nine espresso cups, including their three-cup Moka Express. Sana added DCDESIGN08 beside the burner on her list.

For this combination, choose the Bialetti DCDESIGN08. The instructions used here give no brewing time or taste result for this exact setup.

One extra piece to put away

Oscar was willing to add one plate. He was less willing to find it cooling wherever dinner needed to go. He usually put the kitchen back in order in the evening, so he wanted its cooling spot settled too.

They read the handling instructions together. Prepare the pot, place it on the plate, then use medium heat. Do not leave the plate heating empty while sorting out coffee and water. When brewing finishes, switch the hob off and let the plate cool on a suitable surface.

They also kept the cooktop requirements on the list: a dedicated 120 V, 15 A outlet, a stable dry surface that is nonflammable and nonmetal, and 4 inches of clearance around the appliance. The presence of a kitchen socket would not, by itself, tick those boxes.

Sana crossed out the replacement moka and added the exact plate model. Before ordering, they would check the outlet, measure the space and compare the current total with their budget. Oscar chose where the plate could cool and where it would be stored afterward.

Sana put the pot back beside their mugs. She had one less replacement to shop for before Thursday.

When this does not matter

Your current heat source already suits the pot and you are keeping it.

The practical fix

  1. For the US Duxtop 9600LS, check the magnetic cooking base against its 5-inch minimum. An aluminum moka pot needs an induction plate.
  2. For this three-cup Moka Express, choose the Bialetti DCDESIGN08 plate. Prepare and position the pot before medium heat. Never preheat the plate empty.
  3. Confirm the dedicated 120 V, 15 A supply, suitable surface and 4-inch clearance. Plan a suitable cooling place before buying.

This applies if…

  • You want to keep a small aluminum Bialetti moka while choosing a US 9600LS.

The answer changes if…

  • You choose another burner, a pot outside the plate's supported range, or cookware with a directly compatible magnetic base of at least 5 inches.

What to check in your own setup
  • These specifications cannot tell you how long a brew will take, how it will taste, how quiet the setup will be or which numbered Duxtop power setting to use.
  • The example uses a three-cup Moka Express. Check the exact plate and pot size, especially when buying a regional listing with a different cup limit.
