A carafe beside the sketchbooks
Bea put the mugs beside the sketchbooks, then moved them back a little. There needed to be room for elbows. Friends would be coming over to draw, and Bea wanted to set out an iced carafe that everyone could pour from.
The inherited single-cup coffee equipment still worked. It could stay in service while Bea chose a brewer for ordinary mornings and occasional gatherings. The K-Duo Hot & Iced Gen 2 looked promising. The name seemed to cover the whole plan.
One feature stopped at one cup
In the Keurig guide, Bea found the catch. Brew Over Ice was for single serve only. The machine had a carafe side, but that did not give the carafe the same iced setting.
The guide also warned against brewing hot over ice into glass. Putting ice in the K-Duo glass carafe and hoping the hot setting would do was off the list.
Bea opened the Ninja CFP301 guide next. Its grounds chart included Over Ice at quarter, half, three-quarter and full carafe settings. That was the combination the gathering needed.
Leave time before anyone arrives
The open stretch of counter had room, a suitable nearby outlet and no wall cabinet above. That mattered for this 120 V machine. Ninja calls for a clean, dry, level indoor surface and prohibits an extension cord.
Before the first coffee, Bea would need to wash the parts as directed and run the water-only Full Carafe Classic priming cycle with the pod adapter removed. Cleaning would remain part of using it, too. The machine must be switched off, unplugged and allowed to cool before cleaning.
Bea saved the CFP301 option labelled “w/ K Cup Combo (Paper Filter)” and left the final seller, package and checkout total to check against the $210 budget. Grounds would be for the shared iced carafe, with pods available for individual cups.
The current coffee equipment stayed where it was until the new setup was ready. Bea turned back to the table and put the pencils between the sketchbooks, where either side could reach them.
When this does not matter
You only want one iced serving at a time. The lack of a carafe-sized iced setting then stops being the deciding difference.
The practical fix
- Choose the exact US Ninja CFP301 paper-filter package, ASIN B08QZSN97Z, with its original glass carafe. Check the selected package, seller and total before ordering.
- Allow suitable open counter space with no wall cabinet above and a nearby 120 V outlet. Do not use an extension cord. Complete the guide’s initial washing and water-only Full Carafe Classic prime with the pod adapter removed.
- For the iced carafe, remove the pod adapter, keep the basket in place, insert a #4 cone paper filter and add medium-ground coffee using the guide’s measurement chart for your selected size. Close the sliding lid and open the drip stop.
- Fill the supplied Ninja glass carafe to the top with ice. Put fresh water in the reservoir, select your carafe size and Over Ice, then follow the brewing instructions. Never put ice in the reservoir.
- After use, switch off, unplug and allow the brewer to cool before cleaning the used parts as directed.
This applies if…
- You want occasional carafe-sized Over Ice brews alongside individual servings and are willing to use loose grounds for the carafe.
- You can use the original Ninja glass carafe and meet the machine’s placement, power and preparation requirements.
The answer changes if…
- You want cold-steeped coffee. This Over Ice choice uses hot brewing over ice.
- The available counter is under a wall cabinet or reaching power would require an extension cord.

What to check in your own setup
- The Over Ice setting establishes how these modes work. It does not promise a particular serving temperature, dilution or taste.
- The carafe size chart includes ice. Do not read the full-carafe Over Ice setting as a full carafe of brewed liquid before adding ice.
- This comparison covers the US CFP301 paper-filter package and K-Duo Hot & Iced Gen 2. Other models and packages need their own checks. Price and availability can change.
